A subsidiary of AT&T Mobility LLC, Cingular Wireless is considered to be the United State’s largest mobile phone company. Currently with 61 million subscribers, the company also boasts of being the nation’s largest digital data and voice network.
Founded in 2001, Cingular Wireless was originally a result of a joint venture between AT&T and BellSouth. In 2006, BellSouth was acquired by AT&T along with several regional companies including Ameritech Mobile Communications, LLC, BellSouth Mobility, LLC, SBC Wireless LLC and Pacific Bell Wireless, LLC.
Aside from providing GSM services, Cingular Wireless also offers access to GPRS and EDGE network services. It has also a high-speed UMTS-based network known as “BroadbandConnect” and currently rivals that of Sprint’s and Verizon Wireless’s connection services. Because of its wide reach, Cingular Wireless was chosen to be the Apple iPhone official carrier in the US. This is a significant achievement considering the high expectation for the mobile phone.
Cingular Wireless offers great subscription rates and with their GO Plan, subscribers are provided with more flexibility with regard to subscription plans.
